Ingredients

Rimmel BB Cream contains a REALLY long list of ingredients, which adds more reason to why I should not be using this. I searched for this product in the Android app “Skin Deep” and scarily enough, this product rates a high concern rate of 8. It contains BHT or butylated hydroxytoluene, which “can cause cancer and interfere with hormone function.” It also contains fragrance/parfum and although it is a very common ingredient in many beauty products, fragrance/parfum can trigger allergies and asthma. It is also linked to cancer and neurotoxicity.

Rimmel BB Cream is THE first beauty balm cream I tried and I have to admit, if all BB creams are all like this, then I’d stick with normal moisturisers. I received a sample of this product in medium tone and I’m already discouraged at first glance.

First of all, it only has SPF 15. It may be perfect for people in other places but I live in a desert and I need at least SPF 30 all year round. In fact, I’m pretty sure I read in many websites and books that you need SPF 30 anyways, no matter where you live.

Second of all is the skin tone. The cream is only available in three tones: Light, Medium and Medium/Dark. As mentioned in my previous post, my skin has impossible matches and this product is no exception. The Medium tone makes me look pale while Medium/Dark is way too dark for me.

Diving a little deeper, the cream claims many wonders. Out of nine claims, though, I can only agree at how it smoothes and soothes my skin and also evens out my skin tone (granted, it evens my skin tone by making me look pale.) It does NOT mattify my skin. By ten o’clock, I am already greasy. My pores aren’t minimised either. My shine isn’t controlled and the so-called all-day coverage disappears from my T-zone. I can’t say it does not conceal my dark circles due to my hollow eyes genes but combined with my concealer, it does help cover these designer bags under my eyes.

Looking at the physical thing, the cream is way too creamy for a mattifying product. This, however, makes it perfect for the cold seasons because it does moisturise really well.

So will I purchase this? Definitely not. On the other hand, if you have normal to combination skin instead of combination to oily skin, I recommend this product. Just use it above your SPF 30 sunscreen.
