REVIEW: Nuxe White Brightening Perfecting Mask

I've always loved sheet masks. I love how great it feels on my face and the fact that multitasking while using it is barely ever a mess. So when I got this Nuxe White sheet mask in my April BellaBox, I was really excited to use it.

But alas, it was all for nothing.

What strikes me first was why they don't include the ingredients on the packaging like most products do. That alone raises an alarm in my head but I tried to keep a positive outlook. Luckily, BellaBox does provide a sheet of ingredients for the products they provide.
After looking up the ingredients, I was slightly concerned. The product claims that 87.9% ingredients are of natural ingredients and I do see some moisturising and hydrating ingredients such as aqua/water, butylene glycol, and glycerin. But to see butylene glycol listed second is very concerning (read why here), followed by alcohol denat, parfum/fragrance, and dimetichone. All of these are judged safe to use in cosmetics products but butylene glycol and dimetichone only provide what I think is a cover on the face that masks the imperfections, not fixes them.
This mask contains vitamin C (citric acid) that helps to promote collagen which then helps to minimise the appearance of large pores. It is also good for acne, but I wouldn't recommend a consistent use because of how irritating it can be on the skin.
I can honestly continue with what I think is wrong with the ingredients but it will be a very long post. I would just say that if you are more on the sensitive side, please don't use this product.

REVIEW

I honestly cannot stand this mask. The first thing that strikes me was the VERY strong alcohol smell that hits you in the face when you take it out. 30 minutes after using it, I am still trying to control the headache. The second thing that I notice is the feel of the mask. With every other sheet mask I used, it has always felt like a tissue that clings to the contours of my face. The Nuxe White mask, on the other hand, feels like a paper towel and loses its cling very easily. After these two very annoying concerns, I held on because beauty is pain, and large pores are especially painful.
The instructions recommended leaving it for approximately 10 minutes and I would applaud anyone who can have it on for that long. In the first few minutes after applying the sheet mask, I felt that the mask was slowly releasing another invisible mask on my face (from the dimethicone, maybe?). After 5 minutes, my face feels tingly but not a good tingly but it was a warm tingly. Eventually the warmth got warmer and warmer until it felt uncomfortably hot on my face. On the 7th minute mark I finally gave up and promptly threw the mask into the bin where it belongs.
The smell is definitely the big turn-off here with it still lingering in my head and giving me this sick feeling at the back of my throat. It does what it says in re-plumping your skin and tightening pores but I know that as soon as I wash my face tomorrow morning, it will disappear like it has never existed. Which is good. I'm in pain.

Pros
  • Tightens pores
  • Significantly brightens my complexion
  • Firms skin
Cons
  • Very strong, nauseating alcohol smell
  • Feels like a paper towel that will not cling to the contours of my face
  • Contains some very concerning ingredients
  • Apparently it's $45? What?
  • Provides temporary hydration, then dries your skin

This mask is literally a pain to try. I'm still in pain. For something that costs $45, it is honestly of a ridiculous quality. I will not recommend it to anyone. If you want sheet masks, look somewhere else.

But just in case I haven't convinced you yet, buy it here.
